Why I'm Running

“Morgan County is a beautiful place.  Its rural character, close community, and beautiful open spaces are rare to find and well worth preserving.  I am running to help preserve the rural nature of Morgan, to limit future development so that any additional growth is well-planned with foresight and input from the residents, and to ensure that our county government listens and is responsive to our community.  I want to see Morgan County remain beautiful, do all I can to help improve the quality of life here, and focus on what the residents want.”

Meet Jeff Mathews

I am a husband, father, Realtor, small business owner, and proud Morgan County resident who believes in preserving the values and rural character that make Morgan such a special place to live. Throughout my career, I have worked in retail, real estate, property management, law, healthcare compliance, and business consulting, giving me a practical understanding of the challenges facing families, businesses, and local government.

Public service has been an important part of my life for more than two decades. I served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Costa Mesa, California, where I helped guide responsible growth for a city of more than 120,000 residents. I also chaired the city's Homeless Task Force, leading efforts that connected homeless individuals and veterans with housing, care, and family support. I later served as an elected representative on the Orange County GOP Central Committee, helping improve transparency and accountability within the organization.

Since moving to Utah, I have continued my commitment to serving others. I recently completed four years on the Utah Title & Escrow Commission, serve on the Morgan Valley Historic Preservation Committee, and am a board member for Olive Crest, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting foster families, adoptions, and victims of child trafficking. I am also a fifth-degree black belt and enjoy teaching karate right here in Morgan.

My wife, Shannon, and I are proud owners of the Morgan Mercantile, where we enjoy serving our community and supporting local businesses. With graduate degrees in business and law, extensive leadership experience, and a deep love for Morgan County, I am committed to protecting property rights, preserving Morgan's rural heritage, planning responsibly for future growth, and ensuring county government remains accessible, respectful, and accountable to the people it serves.
